If you’re like me, you loves old movies, the golden age of Hollywood and vintage fashion. If so, you’re probably already aware of the sustained popularity of Pin-Ups. I was surprised to find out how many people still absolutely love pin-ups even after so many decades of popularity.
I traveled to Austin recently and met up with Darla Doherty for a pin up shoot with a Valentine’s Day theme. Darla’s an extraordinarily gifted and beautiful young model who seems to have stepped out of the pages of a 1940′s pulp magazine. Her great sense of humor shines through in these photos.
I tried to give all the photos some amount of grain and selective focus. I also added a strong yellowish cast to simulate that Technicolor look. Ideally, I think pin ups should look distressed, wrinkled, somehow aged to add to the illusion. Sometimes I go overboard with overly saturated colors but who can resist these reds? My inspiration was partially the vintage Coca-Cola ads of the 1940s and 1950s.

Really good, David
